What is PPF?

Paint Protection Film Explained

Paint protection film is a clear polyurethane layer applied over a vehicle's paint to absorb stone chips, scratches and road debris. It is transparent, so the original colour and finish are unchanged — nobody knows it's there until it saves your paint.

We fit gloss and matt paint protection film in Pretoria as an authorized STEK installer, right here in our N4 Gateway workshop. From full-body coverage on a new Defender to a front-end kit on a daily driver, the film takes the hit so your paint doesn't have to.

PPF vs Ceramic vs Vinyl

What's the Difference?

PPF, ceramic coating and vinyl wrap all get sold together, and nobody explains the difference clearly. This page does.

They solve different problems and are often fitted together. PPF stops the chips, ceramic makes the film easier to clean, and a wrap changes the colour under both. Ask us about combining them.

What PPF Stops

Six Things That Damage Your Paint

Every single one of these costs more to fix than the film that prevents it.

Stone Chips

Gravel from highways, loose chippings and road debris — the most common damage on South African roads. PPF absorbs the impact so your paint doesn't have to.

Car Park Dings

Door dings and trolley scuffs in car parks. The film cushions the blow and prevents paint transfer.

Bug & Bird Acid

Insect splatter and bird droppings etch into clear coat within hours. PPF creates a barrier that acid cannot penetrate.

UV Fade

The bonnet and roof bear the brunt of the Gauteng sun. PPF blocks UV before it reaches the paint, preventing fade and oxidation.

Wash Swirls

Fine scratches from automatic brushes and poor washing technique. PPF self-heals light swirls with heat from the sun or warm water.

Chemical Stains

Fuel spill staining around the filler flap, tree sap and industrial fallout. The film is a chemical-resistant shield.

The PPF Process

How We Protect Your Paint

Six steps from your enquiry to a registered warranty. Precision at every stage — because a badly fitted edge is worse than no PPF at all.

01

Send Your Vehicle Details

Tell us your make, model and year, and choose the coverage you want. Include photos for a faster estimate.

02

Paint Inspection & Decontamination

We inspect every panel under workshop lighting. The surface is cleaned, clay-barred and decontaminated so nothing is trapped under the film.

03

Film Cut & Prepared

Using computer-cut patterns for an exact factory fit, the film is precision-cut off the vehicle to match your specific panels.

04

Film Applied & Edges Wrapped

Applied wet for bubble-free adhesion, squeegeed down and edges wrapped for an invisible finish. Every panel checked.

05

Curing Period & Aftercare

We walk you through the aftercare — curing time, washing dos and don'ts, and what to expect in the first few weeks.

06

Warranty Registered

Your installation is registered with the film manufacturer. Manufacturer and workmanship warranties are active from day one.

Looking After Your PPF

Aftercare Matters

Six things to know once your PPF is fitted. Simple habits that add years to the life of the film.

01

Curing time

Do not wash the vehicle for the first 7 days while the film cures and the adhesive bonds fully to the paint.

02

Hand wash only

Hand wash with a microfibre mitt and pH-neutral shampoo. Avoid automated car washes with brushes — they can lift film edges.

03

Avoid high pressure on edges

If using a pressure washer, keep the nozzle at least 30 cm from film edges. High pressure can lift a wrapped edge.

04

Edge lifting

If you notice a lifted edge, do not pull it. Contact us and we will inspect and re-adhere it — this is covered under workmanship warranty.

05

Self-healing

Light swirls and fine scratches close with heat. Park in the sun or pour warm water over the affected area and watch the scratch disappear.

06

Long-term care

Apply a PPF-safe sealant or ceramic coating over the film every 12 months to maintain gloss and make cleaning even easier.

Yes. The self-healing top coat closes light swirls and fine scratches with heat from the sun or warm water. Deeper damage that penetrates the film will not self-heal, which is why the film itself is the sacrificial layer.
